Overview
This project showcases JAK Hire’s expertise in Temporary Access Road Hire for a large caravan park development. The remit was to provide a durable access solution to enable the removal of over 2,500 tons of soil and the delivery of a similar volume of hardcore, along with regular movements of concrete mixers and tarmac lorries. The final stage required the safe transport and installation of 34 cabins, ranging from three to six-berth in size. All of this had to be achieved during the challenging winter period, between November and March, when ground conditions were wet, unstable, and prone to damage.
The Challenge
The caravan park development posed several site access and logistical challenges. Heavy goods vehicles, concrete mixers, and cranes were expected to make daily movements across soft ground, and without a stable roadway, the risk of vehicles becoming stuck was high.
The main obstacles included:

Seasonal conditions: The project was scheduled over the winter months when rainfall and cold temperatures compromised the soil structure.

Heavy loads: Over 2,500 tons of soil needed to be removed, followed by deliveries of hardcore, tarmac, and concrete. Each load required multiple HGV journeys across the site.

Cabin delivery: 34 pre-built cabins, weighing several tons each, needed to be transported safely into position without damage to the ground or equipment.

Timeframe: With works needing completion before the peak holiday season, delays were not an option.
The project demanded a strong, load-bearing roadway that could be installed quickly and withstand constant heavy traffic in poor conditions.
The Solution
JAK Hire provided a tailored Temporary Access Road Hire solution using heavy-duty TuffTrak® panels. These interlocking mats are designed to carry the weight of large vehicles and protect the ground beneath.
Installation

The JAK Hire team installed a continuous trackway system across the caravan park site, creating a stable temporary road from the entrance through to the construction zones.

The panels were laid on uneven and waterlogged ground, instantly providing a level and load-bearing surface.
Performance during works

The roadway enabled constant vehicle movements, including soil removal lorries, hardcore deliveries, concrete mixers, and tarmac lorries.

The mats prevented rutting, sinking, and ground damage, even under repeated heavy traffic.

The flexible system allowed the roadway to be extended and adjusted as the project progressed, supporting every stage from excavation to final cabin installation.
Cabin delivery

Once the site was ready, the access road enabled the smooth transport and positioning of 34 cabins. Each cabin was safely manoeuvred into place without disruption to the ground or project schedule.
