Overview
When installing a bespoke garden sauna within a completed residential landscape, protecting the existing environment becomes just as important as delivering the installation itself.
JAK Hire was brought in to support a specialist contractor working on behalf of a private client, where access to the rear garden required machinery and materials to pass over a finished patio and landscaped garden.
With surfaces designed purely for pedestrian use, the challenge was clear: create safe access for vehicles and equipment without leaving any trace of damage.
The Challenge
The property had already been fully completed, featuring:
- High quality stone patio areas
- Carefully designed planting and soft landscaping
- Decorative pathways and garden features
- Restricted access routes from the front to rear garden
The installation of the sauna required:
- Vehicle and equipment access through the garden
- Protection of delicate hard landscaping surfaces
- Prevention of scratching, marking or cracking of the patio
- Minimal disruption to the property and surrounding environment
Unlike construction sites, there was zero tolerance for damage. Even minor surface marking would have resulted in costly remediation.
The Solution
Following a detailed site survey, JAK Hire specified a TuffTrak ground protection system, combined with an additional protective layer to safeguard the patio surface.

- Careful positioning to follow the natural garden layout

- Rapid installation and removal within a tight timeframe
The mats were installed on the Monday, allowing the contractor immediate access, and removed on the Wednesday once the installation was complete.
The Result
The sauna installation was completed successfully, with:

Once the mats were removed, the garden and patio were left exactly as they were before the works began. This project demonstrates how ground protection can enable complex installations in sensitive residential environments without compromise.
